From 17th April 2019 at 13.45pm the Confluence Wiki has been off-line because it was identified that the server had been compromised. As soon as this was recognised, we took the Wiki off-line and began investigations to ensure the Wiki data had not been affected.

During the last week, we have been extensively testing the system in isolation, to ensure it is safe to bring back online and to ensure this one-off incident cannot be repeated. We are now confident that the system is ready to reinstate and after reviewing our risk assessment, we have received approval from senior directors at CEH to bring it back online on Friday 26th April. The Wiki has been restored to the date and time it was taken offline. CEH apologise to the Wiki community for the incident.

As a precautionary measure, all user passwords have been reset and will need to be changed before login is allowed. We would encourage all users to choose a suitably complex password that differs significantly from any others they might use. CEH/NERC staff should not use the same password they use for login to their PC.

This message is being sent to all space administrators directly and will be shared on the Wiki with all users for information.

CEH will share the lessons learned from this incident a soon as is practicable. Should anyone have problems with the restored Wiki please contact wikihelp@ceh.ac.uk
