A new feature called the Asset Repo has now been added to DataLabs which is fully operational. The goal of this is to curate a central set of datasets and links which are useful to the community. The main points can be found below;

  • A new tab called Asset Repo is now accessible in the Top Bar of DataLabs which contains a list of curated datasets.
  • Datasets can either be made public to the entire community or restricted to one or a number of projects depending on the need.
  • "Assets" can be made available directly within either Notebooks or Sites in a read-only fashion.

A new feature is now fully operational in DataLabs which allows you to search from a central repository of data and mount it directly into your notebooks or sites. The goal behind this change is to prevent the community from individually bringing in multiple copies of data sets which could be useful to the wider community. The default page for the Asset Repo can be found in the top bar (https://datalab.datalabs.ceh.ac.uk/assets/find).

Main features include;

The configuration of the Asset Repo allows "Assets" to either be made public to all users, or restricted to specific projects if needed.

This feature represents a way both to request popular datasets which we can host a copy of for the whole community, but also to share specific datasets between internal DataLabs projects.

In order to get things rolling we have added the following datasets which are now available for all users within DataLabs;

  • Land Cover Change 1990-2015 (25m raster, GB)
  • Land Cover Change 1990-2015 (25m raster, N. Ireland)
  • Land Cover Map 2020 (10m classified pixels, GB)
  • Land Cover Map 2020 (25m rasterised land parcels, GB)

The guidance on how to attach them to existing notebooks can be found on the following page https://datalab-docs.datalabs.ceh.ac.uk/howto/use-the-asset-repo/index.html

NOTE: In many cases the data held within DataLabs is a copy of a dataset held within EIDC or another source repository. If this is the case a DOI will be listed on the Asset Repo entry which can be used to see the raw data page as well as information on how to cite the data if necessary.
